Earlier this year, I went to Eroticon for the first time and had an absolute blast. Here’s my experience of this excellent event as a newbie.
My nice friend @divafoof had told me about Eroticon and invited me along. I was also intrigued by the idea. I’d done a little writing now and again on Fetlife, mostly journalling but the occasional piece of poetry as well and I was starting to take a close interest in the world of sex blogging and erotica writing.
No matter how cold and snow-covered it was outside (very!), inside was a heady combination of warm inclusivity and hot products from the sponsors (let’s just say I’ve been on a shopping spree since!). The opening speech by Girl On The Net (who I’m a huuuge fan of) really kicked off my motivation to get into this writing thing properly – her message that everyone’s words count, no matter how big or small the audience, was the prod I needed to get on with this.
I attended presentations on privacy law and record-keeping, responsible activism, legal issues for bloggers and a panel on the future of sex tech (geeking and freaking, my two favourite things) which all gave me much food for thought. Speaking of food, the lunch was delicious – those pakora things were chilli-laden enough to give me an endorphin rush.
After lunch, I browsed around the sponsor stands chalking up a mental shopping list (on the “WANT!” list; the Rocks Off Ruby Glow, a Doxy, and this Bijoux Indiscrets collar) then headed over to check out some demos.
Which brings me to the vac play session. Well. I’ve never particularly been into latex, although in hindsight that’s probably more to do with lack of exposure (smirk) than preference but I was feeling adventurous, so I volunteered to try out the cube. Having wriggled into a latex-walled cube and stuck my head out through the tunnel in the side, I was kind of getting the idea but was unprepared for how it felt when the air was sucked out and I was imprisoned in a totally-encasing shell of unyielding latex. Oh my god, it was amazing. Now I understand why people are into this. To be completely restrained all over, not even able to wriggle a finger or change position – and then be treated to a cheeky spanking by Mac the Vac – well, let’s just say I was barely coherent. I wasn’t mad keen on the smell of latex that followed me around for the rest of the day, but hell, it was so worth it.
The best part of the whole day though, was the lovely people I met. Some whose names (or pseudonyms) I was already familiar with, others who had been strangers to me until we struck up a chat hanging out on the ridiculously comfortable Sheets of San Francisco bed. Many of them have now become Twitter buddies – what a fabulous commuity there is out there!
A huge thankyou to the organisers, sponsors, speakers and fellow attendees of Eroticon 2018, thank you for making me feel so comfortable and welcome. I look forward to seeing you all next year because I’m definitely coming back.
